Columbus State takes series 2-1 against UNC Pembroke

The Columbus State Cougars defeated UNC Pembroke 4-1 Sunday at Ragsdale Field to win the three-game series 2-1.

CSU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Dustin Averett scored on a balk followed by an RBI single by Tim Massengale.

Jimmy Obermark homered over the left field wall in the third, and Mike McClellan hit a solo shot in the sixth.

McClellan went 2-4 with an RBI, Massengale went 1-3 with an RBI and Obermark went 1-4 with an RBI.

Bryan Headley (2-1) picked up the win for CSU. He threw for five innings and gave up one run on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Columbus State (5-5, 2-1 Peach belt Conference) will host Clark Atlanta Tuesday at 4 p.m.
