Auburn baseball downs UConn 7-3

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Auburn Tigers took a big 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third that led to a 7-3 win over UConn Sunday in the Snowbird Classic.

Daniel Robert brought a run in on a fielder's choice, Damek Tomscha hit an RBI single, Jordan Ebert brought in a run on a groundout and Blake Austin hit an RBI single in the third.

UConn scored two runs by the sixth inning to narrow the gap, but a two-RBI single by Tomscha in the sixth and a sac fly for an RBI by Dan Glevenyak in the seventh propelled the Tigers to the win.

Tomscha went 2-4 with three RBIs and Glevenyak went 2-3 with one RBI. Keegan Thompson (1-0) picked up the win. He pitched five and 2-3 innings and gave up one run on two hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Auburn (2-1) will host Alabama State Wednesday at 4 p.m.
