FROM STAFF REPORTSFebruary 16, 2014

TIFTON, Ga. -- The Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates won a close 8-6 game against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Sunday to sweep the three-game series.

The Pirates had issues with errors in the game that allowed ABAC four of its six runs.

"We cannot seem to throw the ball to first base on pick-off plays," CVCC coach Adam Thomas said.

ABAC started the game with a 1-0 lead, but a big second inning for CVCC led to a 3-1 Pirate lead after a two-run hit by JD Perry.

The game stayed close through the top of the fifth, but Jared Martin hit a three-run home run that inning that led to a 7-4 lead by the sixth for CVCC.

ABAC scored a few more runs off errors to keep it close, but the Pirates were able to hold on for the win after closer Chris Brown shut down ABAC.

The winning pitcher was Dylan Lee. He threw for five innings and gave up no earned runs and three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Trevor Kieboom went 2-4 with an RBI, Perry went 3-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, and Martin went 1-4 with three RBIs on the day for CVCC.

"Our bullpen was good today," Thomas said.

CVCC (9-1) will travel to Georgia Highlands Tuesday for a game starting at 5:30 p.m.
