Yellow Jackets fall to VCU 5-3

ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech fell to VCU 5-3 Sunday.

Georgia Tech started off ahead 2-1 by the end of the second innings thanks in part to an RBI double by Matt Gonzalez in the first. VCU then had a three-run inning in the third that put them ahead and in control of the contest.

VCU scored one more run in the seventh to go up 5-2, and Georgia Tech's last ditch effort in the ninth yielded only one run on a groundout by A.J. Murray.

Gonzalez went 2-4 with an RBI and Murray went 1-5 with an RBI for the Yellow Jackets.

The losing pitcher was Josh Heddinger. He threw for five innings and gave up four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Georgia Tech (1-1) will play at Georgia Southern Wednesday at 6 p.m.
