JOHN PYLE

You are an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer. How did you develop this keen interest in fitness?

I have been athletic my entire life. I grew up in a home with parents who were fitness minded and very active. We didn't have Good Housekeeping magazine sitting around our home; it was Muscle & Fitness magazine that I had more access to. I guess it is just in my DNA.

Please tell us about your most recent adventure, a relay run from Miami to Key West.

My husband, Joey, and I enjoy the challenge of long-distance relay runs. We LOVE Key West and got married there in 2010. We learned there was a relay run that ended in Key West and knew we had to put it on our Bucket List. Joey will turn 60 on Feb. 26, so this would be the perfect way to celebrate with our friends. We were right! It was a fantastic adventure. As athletes and avid runners we love the idea of "running to our vacation."

Our team, Team Margarita Run, was made up of 10 runners and our team theme was "Raising Awareness for Joey's 60th Birthday." We started in Miami on the morning of Feb. 7 and conquered all 198 miles by ending on Higgs Beach in Key West Saturday afternoon. Once we got there, we stayed for a week of vacation.

As a Realtor in Columbus and Phenix City, what trends are you seeing in the local markets?

I am happy to share the good news. We are seeing our local real estate market move in a positive direction. The last 24 months I have been super busy. While it will take a while for values to rebound, the good news is there are lots of great qualified buyers and well-priced, motivated sellers. So, things are moving. It's really fun to see our market back in an upward swing and I am very excited to see what 2014 has in store for us. I know it's going to be good.

You and your husband, Joey, are pet owners and have recently gone through the loss of longtime companion and the adoption of another. How has that gone?

That was such a difficult loss when Daisy passed away in April of 2012. Daisy was a Weimaraner and I adore that breed. When she passed away, I knew I would eventually want another one, so Joey and I made plans for our new arrival.

Bailee was born in November of 2012 and we brought her home on New Year's Eve 2012. She is 85 pounds of attitude and sass and 2 tons of fun and love. Joey and I love her so much and she fits right into our active lifestyle. While Bailee has some of the same characteristics as Daisy, she is for sure her own dog with a personality that is just hers.

What is the best-kept secret in the Chattahoochee Valley?

We live in a community of such wonderful people but that's no secret. I think what some people don't know or may not really fully appreciate is the allure of our proximity. While we have so much to do right in our backyard with the riverwalk, whitewater and all our community has to offer, some take for granted how perfectly situated we are from a location perspective. In less than four hours you can be hiking up the mountains of north Georgia, enjoying a weekend in Atlanta, shopping in Birmingham, hanging out on River Street in Savannah or soaking up some sunshine on the beach in the panhandle of Florida. I have lived in the Chattahoochee Valley for 18 years, and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I am truly happy and love my life in this area.
