Senate Revives Drinks Bill
The Georgia Senate voted 32-9 today to reconsider the mixed drinks bill it defeated Monday.
The action cleared the way for renewed debate on a proposal that would legalize the sale of mixed drinks in Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Valdosta, Columbus and Albany.
Legislative leaders predicted today that a congressional redistricting plan leaving Muscogee and Bibb counties in the same district will be passed and signed into law by Gov. Carl E. Sanders.
Despite opposition of lawmakers from major cities of Columbus and Macon, sentiment for the plan was growing in the legislature.
For only the third time in United Givers history, the 1963 fund-raising campaign for 32 charitable and social agencies in the local community has gone over the top.
Announcement of successful completion of the drive with 100.014 percent of the $668,000 was made Monday night by drive chairman Andrew B. Speed.
