Mayor Teresa Tomlinson has been invited to speak at the annual Public-Private Partnership Conference next week in Dallas, Texas, her office announced today.
Tomlinson will be the only mayor speaking to the two-day gathering of economic development professionals, according to a city release. The annual conference brings together public leaders and development professionals in construction, engineering and architecture.
This is an incredible opportunity for the city," said Tomlinson. We plan to highlight some of our impressive public-private collaborations, including our RiverCenter, our RiverWalk, our Ft. Benning gateway and our Whitewater Course, to name a few. Then, we will pitch those opportunities coming down the pike to include the City Village and South Columbus revitalization efforts and our High-Speed Passenger Rail feasibility study.
Peter Bowden, CEO of the Columbus Convention and Visitor Bureau, said Tomlinsons invitation came about because of an investor/consultants visit to Columbus, which left an impression on him.
He believed we had a story to share, and we believe so, too., Bowden said.
Mike Gaymon, president and CEO of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, said,
Most cities have their own way of getting things done. In Columbus, Georgia our public- private partnership approach has proven to be our best tool.
The conference is presented by The Public-Private Partnership Alliance (P3A), which creates industry events to assist governments in transforming neighborhoods into economically vibrant and sustainable communities, the release states.
(Public-private partnership) projects are important vehicles for public agencies to bring essential real estate projects to fruition," said Eric Iravani, executive director for P3A. "Our event is designed to inaugurate relationships through uniquely topical networking events, and provide attendees with valuable insights into prospective public private partnership possibilities across the country.
