Lady Cougars sweep Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Columbus State Lady Cougars softball team swept Albany State in a two-game series Tuesday. CSU won the first game 14-2 and the second game 5-0.

CSU hit five home runs in Game 1 and one in Game 2. Casey Googe and Kodi Ricketson both hit two-run shots in the first in Game 1. Morgan Staffins hit a two-run homer in the fourth followed by a solo home run by Kristen Carr.

Carr then hit a grand slam for Columbus State in the fifth inning.

In Game 2 it was Staffins that homered again, this time on a solo blast to left field in the top of the sixth.

Taylor Turner and Carr were the winning pitchers for CSU on the day.

Columbus State (9-4) will play in the Shaw Softball Challenge in Raleigh, N.C., beginning Friday at 1 p.m. against Mansfield University followed by a game against Winston-Salem State at 7 p.m.
