VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Valdosta State scored three runs in the first inning Wednesday and made them stand up in a 4-1 win over Columbus State.
The Cougars got their only run in the third inning when Brendan Collins doubled in Carson Bowers.
Jordan Villhauer (1-2) gave up three runs on three hits in two innings and took the loss. Beau Blair (2-0) worked two scoreless innings in relief and picked up the win.
The Cougars had just six hits and the Blazers (10-0) managed just five hits.
Columbus State (6-6, 2-1 Peach Belt Conference) has a three-game series beginning Friday at Georgia Regents University in Augusta. The Friday games is at 6 p.m. A Saturday doubleheader begins at 1:30 p.m.
