Big eighth inning gives Alabama State 9-3 win over Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn fought back to pull within one run Wednesday at 4-3 after seven innings, but Alabama State put up five runs in the eighth to take a 9-3 win at Plainsman Park.

Alabama State broke up a scoreless game in the sixth inning with three runs. Auburn picked up one run in the bottom of that frame when Ryan Tella's sacrifice fly scored Anfernee Grier.

Alabama State added a single run in the seventh. Auburn fought back in the bottom frame when Blake Austin doubled in two runs.

But that was as close as the Tigers got.

Drake Hloska (1-0) got the win in relief. Justin Camp (0-1) worked 5 2-3 innings and got the loss.

Auburn hosts the Tiger Classic beginning Friday.
