Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - World No. 1 Rafael Nadal and second seed David Ferrer won their respective quarterfinal matches on Friday at the inaugural $1.3 million Rio Open.

Nadal cruised past Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-1, 6-0 on the red clay at Jockey Club Brasileiro.

Up next for Nadal will be eighth-seeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar, who took down fellow countryman Tommy Robredo by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.

Ferrer, fresh off his title in Buenos Aires last week, rallied past Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The match featured a lengthy rain delay in the third set.

Ferrer is on an eight-match winning streak since reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov ousted third-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-1. Fognini lost in last week's final in Buenos Aires after capturing a title in Chile the week before. He was trying to reach the final at a fifth straight clay-court event, dating back to last season.

This week's titlist will claim $316,400.
