CVCC gets two wins in doubleheader vs. East Georgia

FROM STAFF REPORTSFebruary 22, 2014

The Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates swept a doubleheader against East Georgia Saturday at home.

The Pirates won the first game 2-0 and the second game 15-2.

In Game One both teams pitched well. CVCC scored its first run in the third when Tyler Lynn brought in John Holland.

In the fifth Holland drove in Drew Lingo to put CVCC up 2-0. East Georgia put together its best chance to score runs in the top of that inning, but two different runners were picked off at second base to end the opportunity.

Holland went 1-3 with an RBI and Lynn went 1-2 with an RBI for the Pirates in the game.

Hunter Mitchell (3-1) picked up his third win of the season. He pitched for six innings and gave up no runs and three hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Chris Brown came in late and picked up his third save of the season.

Game 2 turned out much differently on the scoreboard than Game 1. East Georgia started out with an early 2-0 lead, but CVCC scored seven runs in each of the second and third innings to take a commanding advantage. The Pirates ended up with 15 hits in the contest.

Holland went 3-4 with four RBIs, Jeff Ronpirin went 2-3 with three RBIs and JD Perry went 2-3 with two RBIs in the nightcap.

Kevin Moore (3-0) was the winning pitcher for the Pirates. He threw for four innings and gave up two runs and four hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

CVCC (13-1) will play at East Georgia Monday starting at 2 p.m.
