Cottonmouths get by FireAntz with big period

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Columbus Cottonmouths found themselves tied with the Fayettville FireAntz 2-2 going into the final period Saturday night.

The Snakes then scored three goals in the final period to win 5-2.

The FireAntz scored two goals in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead.

Jordan Draper scored an unassisted goal for Columbus at the 1:12 mark in the second period, and Sam Bowles put the puck in the back of the net 14 minutes later.

Goals by Tory Allan, Preston Shuper and Andy Willigar put the lead thoroughly out of reach for Fayetteville, and the Cottonmouths picked up the win.

Goailie Andrew Loewen made 35 saves for the Snakes on the night.

The Cottonmouths (19-21) will host the Mississippi RiverKings today at 4 p.m.
