Muguruza into QFs in Brazil

Florianopolis, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Second-seeded Garbine Muguruza is into the quarterfinals of the Brasil Tennis Cup.

Muguruza, who won her first WTA title last month at the Hobart International, beat Chanelle Scheepers 6-2, 6-1 in 58 minutes on Tuesday.

Sixth-seeded Alexandra Cadantu and Yaroslava Shvedova also posted second-round wins. Cadantu beat Dinah Pfizenmaier 6-2, 6-3 and Shvedova moved past Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-2, 7-5.

Third-seeded Klara Zakopalova was among seven players who posted first-round wins on Tuesday. She beat Donna Vekic 6-3, 6-3.

No. 1 seed Carla Suarez Navarro and defending champion Monica Niculescu opened with wins on Monday.

Rain washed out opening-day play on Sunday.
