Cougars hold off Shorter for 2-1 win

Columbus State got by Shorter 2-1 Tuesday at Ragsdale Field.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second after Blake Edwards reached home on a throwing error followed by a RBI double to right field by Carson Bowers.

CSU kept the 2-0 lead until Shorter scored its only run of the contest in the top of the seventh.

Columbus State would hold off Shorter for the rest of the contest to pick up the close win.

Bowers went 2-3 with an RBI and Edwards went 2-4 with a double.

Robert Hayes (1-0) picked up his first win of the season. He threw for five innings and gave up no runs and only one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.

Trey Watson picked up his third save. He put in one inning of work and gave up only one hit with two strikeouts.

CSU (10-6) will host Armstrong Atlantic for a three-game home series beginning Saturday at 3 p.m.
