High school roundup: Callaway beats Thomason 87-83

HOGANSVILLE, Ga. -- The Callaway boys made the Elite 8 round of the GHSA Class AAA state tournament with a 87-83 win over Thomason Tuesday.

Dre Martin had a solid night with 39 points for Callaway, and Braylon Sanders scored 18 points.

Callaway (21-6) will host Swainsboro Thursday at 6 p.m.

Chase Dennis drove in two runs with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning as Glenwood knocked off rival Pike Liberal in a game played at CVCC's Howard Lake Field.

Tyler Cadenhead earned the win as he pitched the final two innings for the Gators in relief. Chad Silvani and Tanner Thomason pitched the first six.Tuesday at CVCC

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Will Kilgore went 4-for-5, drove in two runs and picked up the win on the mound as Columbus defeated Northgate in extra innings.

With game tied 7-7 after seven innings, the Blue Devils exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth and held on for the win.

Jose Cruz scored at the 11-minute mark of the first half and the Hawks made it stand up in a win over Central.

The goal came after Jared Almanza had fired a hard shot on goal that rebounded back to Almanza. He then passed the ball to Cruz, who got the game winner.Tuesday at Phenix City
