Bradenton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tony Sanchez's three-run homer highlighted a four-run seventh inning that lifted the Pittsburgh Pirates over the New York Yankees, 6-5, in spring training action at McKechnie Field.
Sanchez finished 2-for-2 and Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Pirates.
Yangervis Solarte, starting at shortstop for the Yankees, went 2-of-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored. Jacoby Ellsbury reached base three times as the New York leadoff hitter, scoring a pair of runs.
Francisco Liriano started on the mound for Pittsburgh and allowed two runs on three hits while walking one in one inning. Edinson Volquez, trying to earn a spot in the Pirates rotation, was also in action, yielding Solarte's homer in his only inning. Duke Welker got the win despite allowing one run in one inning of work.
Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and yielded two runs on two hits, walking two and striking out one, in 1 1 /3 innings.
