Kline leads Southern Miss over Alabama 2-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Breck Kline singled in Mason Robbins in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday night to give Southern Mississippi a 2-1 win over Alabama.

Both teams picked up single runs in the fifth inning.

William Elliot scored Alabama's only run after a Southern Mississippi fielding error.

In the bottom of the inning, Southern's Bradley Roney scored from third on an RBI ground out to first by Connor Barron.

Alabama (4-3) and Southern Miss (4-5) each had seven hits in the game.

Jay Myrick (1-0) picked up the win for Southern Miss. Roney held Alabama scoreless in the ninth and got the save.

Taylor Guilbeau (0-1) took the loss.

Alabama travels for a three-game series at Louisiana-Lafayette beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CST.
