Recap: Miss State vs. Tennessee

Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan McRae tallied 29 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double as the Tennessee Volunteers outlasted the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 75-68, in a Southeastern Conference matchup at Humphrey Coliseum.

Jarnell Stokes contributed 14 points and nine rebounds in the win, while Jeronne Maymon netted 10 points with 11 rebounds for Tennessee (17-11, 8-7 SEC). The Volunteers have won two of their last three games.

Roquez Johnson scored 19 points to pace Mississippi State (13-15, 3-12). Fred Thomas chipped in 18 points and six boards in the loss, which was the 10th consecutive defeat for the Bulldogs.

Tennessee connected on 45.2 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, including 3-of-9 from 3-point distance, and took a 35-24 lead into the half. Mississippi State hit 34.6 percent of its shots in the frame, including 1-of-7 from deep.

The Volunteers dropped their shooting accuracy down to 34.3 percent in the second half, which included 3-of-12 from 3-point range. Tennessee did hit 13-of-16 from the free-throw line, though. The Bulldogs drained 50 percent of their attempts in the period, but only could make up four points from the 11- point first-half Tennessee lead.

Tennessee held the advantage in points in the paint, 36-32, and outscored the Bulldogs from 3-point range, 18-9. Mississippi State won the battle in bench points, 25-11.
