Special Victim's Unit detectives are searching for a suspected rapist who has targeted Columbus women between 60 and 80 years old since late February, according to a press release.

Victims have told police that the suspect knocks on the doors of potential targets, claiming to need directions. After gaining the women's confidence, he assaults them. Two such incidents have been reported between Feb. 25 and March 3, according to the release. Police say similar assaults have also been reported in Phenix City, Russell County and Lee County, Ala.

On February 25, a 68-year-old woman reported that was assaulted in her home near River Road and 50th Street. She described the suspect as a 5-foot-10, clean-shaven black man with a light complexion and short hair. He was wearing large diamond earrings in both ears. That attack happened at about 10:20 a.m., according to the report.

Monday, police found a 59-year-old rape victim lying injured in her bedroom while investigating a burglary report at her home off Hunter Road. Police discovered the woman at about 4:55 p.m.

In the release, police describe the suspect as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 black man between 20 and 35 years old. He has been described as slender, well-spoken, with low facial hair. He potentially dresses in business casual attire, and has been seen operating a silver Dodge Charger with a spoiler on the rear.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about this suspect should contact the Investigative Division at (706) 653-3400.
