Brookstone grad in ICU after scooter accident

ATHENS, Ga. — A 2011 Brookstone High School graduate is in the Intensive Care Unit at Athens Regional Medical Center after he was hit Monday by a vehicle while riding his scooter, according to hospital officials.

According to The Red & Black, Raphael Arbelaez was hit by a gold Volkswagen near the intersection of West Broad Street and Church Street at about 4 p.m. The University of Georgia student was attempting to make a left turn onto Broad Street when he pulled into the path of the vehicle. An Athens Transit bus blocked his view of the lane.

His status condition was unavailable as of Wednesday morning.

Arbelaez intends to graduate in 2015 with a degree in business, according to his personal page. His family moved to Columbus from Florida during his high school years.
