CVCC splits twinbill with Central Alabama


Chattahoochee Valley Community College coach Adam Thomas said his team played the best 14 innings it has all season, but the Pirates came up two innings short of sweeping Central Alabama on Saturday at Howard Lake Field.

In Game 1, Dalton Rentz pitched a nine-inning complete game as the Pirates beat Central Alabama 5-1. In Game 2, a seven-inning game, the Pirates lost 2-1.

Rentz allowed just the one run on five hits and a walk. He had five strikeouts.

Trevor Kieboom went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jeff Ronpirin had three RBIs, including a two-run single that blew the game open in the eighth.

Chris Brown (0-2) took the loss in the second game. He gave up a double and a wild pitch before Central Alabama drove in the go-ahead run with a fielder's choice.

Hunter Mitchell started and pitched the first six innings for CVCC (15-5, 1-1 ACCC). He gave up one unearnhed run on two hits and a walk. He had four strikeouts.

Ronpirin had two hits and JD Perry had one.

The teams finish the series at Howard Lake Field at 2 p.m. Sunday.
