Columbus State uses red-hot bats to sweep Salem International

Columbus State continues to swing hot bats in a 10-2 and 9-1 sweep of Salem International on Saturday at Ragsdale Field.

The wins gave the Cougars (17-7) a three-game sweep of Salem (0-10). In those three games, CSU outscored Salem 39-5.

The Cougars have a five-game win streak in which they have outscored their opponents 64-10.

Catcher Dustin Averett went 5-for-9 with two homers, three doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored in the two games combined. Second baseman Jimmy Obermark went 5-for-9 with a homer, seven RBIs and threee runs scored.

Jackson Oliver had four hits and Brendan Collins and Blake Edwards had three apiece.

Caden Ferguson (3-1) won Game 1, allowing just three hits in seven innings. He struck out 12.

Bryan Headley (4-1) won Game 2, giving up six hits in six innings.

The victory in Game 2 was CSU's 1,500th.
