Eicholtz, Haynie lead Tide to 12-1 rout of Samford


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Catcher Will Haynie had a 2-run homer in the fourth and a 2-run double in the fifth to lead Alabama to 12-1 win over Samford Tuesday.

Casey Hughston also drove in two runs for the Tide.

Nick Eicholtz (1-0) spread three hits over seven innings to pick up the win.

Cody Pugh allowed five runs on six hits over 3 1/1 innings and took the loss for Samford (11-5).

Alabama (10-5) begins Southeastern Conference play this weekend.The Tide hosts Kentucky for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7:35 p.m.
