Smith, Stanton lead Jackets to 7-5 win over Western Carolina


ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech survived a rough first inning and put up five runs in the second inning Tuesday to take command and defeat Western Carolina 7-5.

Thomas Smith went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Jackets (9-7).

Devin Stanton (1-0) gave up just one hit in 4 1/3 innings of the relief and picked up the win.

Bryan Sammons gave up six runs on six hits in working one inning. He took the loss.

Georgia Tech hosts Miami for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
