Posey, Nichols lead Georgia to win over Mississippi State


ATHENS, Ga. -- Jess Posey and Daniel Nichols each drove in two runs to lead Georgia to a 7-1 Southeastern Conference win over Mississippi State Friday night at Foley Field.

Ryan Lawlor (2-1) spread eight hits over 7 2-3 innings and took the win. He struck out seven and the only run scored against him was unearned.

Ben Bracewell (2-2) took the loss for Mississippi State (13-8, 0-1). He gave up three runs on five hits and left the game after two innings.

Georgia (13-6, 1-0 SEC) built a 7-0 lead scoring in five of the first six innings.

Nichols had a 2-run homer in the third inning. Posey and Conor Welton each had three hits in the game.

Georgia and Mississippi State play single games Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Foley Field to close out the three-game SEC opening series.
