Dimon Magnet Academy: The school will host its 2014 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Day and Magnet Open House from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Parents and visitors are welcomed to participate in a variety of hands-on activities. Magnet information and applications will be available for prospective students.

Race for a Cure: Russell County Middle School will host Race for a Cure 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. EST on Saturday. Proceeds go to the local Relay for Life organization. Cost is $10-$20 and awards will be given. For more information or to register, contact the school at 334-855-4453.

Want to be a Viking?: St. Anne Pacelli Catholic School will host an Open House for prospective families 8:30-10 a.m. March 26. You will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, get admissions and tuition information and meet administrators. Email for more information.

Praise band: The St. Luke Middle School Praise Band presents “An Evening of Pop and Praise,” 7 p.m., Monday at the St. Luke Ministry Center. Admission is minimum $5. Proceeds benefit Naomi’s Village, an orphanage and school in Kenya. The public is invited.

Recycling debate: Carver High School students are scheduled to participate in a debate about mandatory recycling on March 23. Columbus Public Works Director Pat Biegler, will moderate. The event, sponsored by The South Columbus Concerned Citizens, will be 2:30-5 p.m. at the Hampton Inn (next to the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center). The event is free and open to the public.

Baseball games: Jordan will host a pair of baseball games on Saturday on Alumni Day. The Red Jackets will play Brookstone at noon, then Pacelli at 3 p.m.
