Lady Cougars split with UNC Pembroke


The Columbus State Lady Cougars split a doubleheader with UNC Pembroke at home Saturday. The Lady Cougars fell 2-1 in Game 1 but rebounded to win Game 2 9-0.

Taylor Turner hit an RBI double in the fourth during Game 1, but a couple of runs late gave UNC Pembroke the win.

Lindsey DeFee (3-2) absorbed the loss. She pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

CSU fought back in Game 2 and took a 3-0 lead in the third thanks to a run from Nina Rubio on an error and a two-run home run by Morgan Staffins.

The Lady Cougars then tallied three home runs in the sixth inning. DeFee and Suzanne Carney both hit two run shots while Morgan Knight hit a solo homer.

Abby Green was the winning pitcher. She threw for five innings and gave up no runs on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Columbus State (20-9, 3-1) will play a doubleheader at Armstrong Atlantic beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
