Georgia Tech evens series with Miami


ATLANTA -- The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated Miami 13-7 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. The win evened up the three-game series at 1-1, as Miami beat Georgia Tech 10-8 on Friday.

Miami got out to a 6-0 lead by the top of the third Saturday, but the Yellow Jackets scored two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to knot the game at 6-6.

Georgia Tech then scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to ice the game.

Brandon Gold had a two-RBI double in the inning, Matt Gonzalez and Keenan Innis had RBI doubles and Connor Justus, Daniel Spingola and Mott Hyde each had an RBI single.

In Friday's game the score was tied at 5-5 in the fifth, 7-7 in the seventh and 8-8 in the eighth, but it was the Hurricanes that scored the final two runs of the game in the ninth to take the win.

Hyde went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Spingola went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the game.

Dusty Isaacs (2-2) absorbed the loss for Georgia Tech. He pitched one inning and gave up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Georgia Tech (10-8, 2-3) had one more game to go in the series that was to be played late Saturday night.
