Alabama splits doubleheader but takes series 2-1 from Kentucky


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Mikey White hit a 2-run homer with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Alabama to 5-3 a win over Kentucky and a split of their Saturday doubleheader.

Georgie Salem had three hits in Game 2 for the Tide. A.J. Reed was 3-for-4 and had a 3-run homer for Kentucky (14-6, 1-2 SEC).

Kentucky's Andrew Nelson spread five hits over 8 1-3 innings and looked to closed out the complete-game win, but the Tide scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 3-3. Spencer Jack took the loss in relief. Thomas Burrows (3-0) got the win in relief.

In Game 1, Austin Cousino and Michael Thomas each hit 2-run homers in the first inning to stake Kentucky to a 4-0 lead on the way to a 7-2 victory.

Chandler Shepherd (4-0) spread nine hits and two runs over 7 1-2 innings to pick up the win.

The Tide's Justin Kamplain (2-2) allowed six runs on six hits in taking the loss. Kamplain struck out six and walked one.

Alabama's Wade Wass was 2-for-4 with a run batted in. Will Haynie extended his hitting streak to seven games in Game 1 before failing to get a hit in Game 2.

Alabama (12-6, 2-1 SEC) hosts Alcorn State Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. and Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.
