High school roundup: Blake Johnson leads Central to 2 wins

Blake Johnson went 4-for-5 with three doubles, five runs scored and two RBIs as Central won both of its games on Military Appreciation Day at Darnell Field.

The Red Devils beat Shaw 4-3 and Hardaway 8-3. In the other two games, Smiths Station beat Hardaway 7-4 and Northside beat Smiths Station 16-2.

Tanner Davis also had four hits for Central in the two games combined.

In Game, Davis drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Central its win over Shaw.

In Game 2, Smiths Station scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Hardaway.

Cody Harrison drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers. Hardaway was led by Blake Meadows, who went 2-for-3 with a double.

In Game 3, Michael Rossi went 3-for-3 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs in the Patriots' win over Smiths Station in a game shortened to five innings.

In Game 4, Johnson and Coleson Taylor drove in two runs apiece as Central handed Hardaway its second loss of the day.

Meadows had another big game at the plate for the Hawks, hitting a three-run homer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Columbus scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to salvage a split of two games it played on Saturday.

Will Kilgore (1-0) earned the win for the Blue Devils, which beat Clay County 6-5.

Earlier in the day, the Blue Devils could only manage four hits and lost 15-4 to Ponte Vedra in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
