Russell County residents will have a couple extra hours four days a week so they can renew or apply for a new pistol permit.

Sheriff Heath Taylor announced Tuesday his office has now extended its hours until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Sheriff's Office will maintain an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule on Friday.

"I can imagine there are citizens who want to apply for a permit but may not be able to leave work in order to come here and apply, so maybe by extending our hours, we can accommodate those citizens as well," Taylor said.
