Columbus State's Casey Googe sets school record for homers, but team loses twice to Armstrong


SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Columbus State softball team lost a pair of Peach Belt Conference games at No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic on Friday afternoon, 2-1 and 16-8.

Former Glenwood pitcher Ollivia McLemore (15-2) picked up the win in Game 1 for Armstrong Atlantic. She have up just three hits and struck out seven.

CSU's Taylor Turner suffered the loss, giving up two runs on four hits. Morgan Knight drove in CSU's lone run in the first inning.

The bats for both teams woke up in the second game as they combined for 22 hits.

Kodi Ricketson hit a grand slam for CSU in the first as it built a 6-0 lead.

Casey Googe broke CSU's record for career home runs with her 41st. Her sixth home of this season came in the second inning and gave the Lady Cougars (20-11, 3-3) a 7-4 lead.

Taylor (6-6) took the loss in Game 2 as well. She gave up four runs on four hits.

CSU plays at Flagler on Sunday with the first game of a twinbill scheduled for a 1 p.m.
