DAR Good Citizens award winners honored

The George Walton and Oglethorpe Chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored the DAR Good Citizens at an awards ceremony.

The winners from the eight high schools who participated are front row, from left; Jasmin Mamangon, Chattahoochee County; Kathryn Wilson, Brookstone; and Erin Bagley, Hardaway; third place. Back row, James Jones, Carver, first place; Ky'Ongela Feggins, Jordan; Madison Johnson, Columbus; and April Merritt, Northside. Not pictured: Moriah Epps, Kendrick High, second place.

Students had to be nominated from their school and, along with extracurricular activities and career goals, had to complete an essay.

The essay topic was "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It."

The winning essay will compete in the district, state and national competitions.
