Senior Gabe Wright (90) and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn will welcome San Jose State to Jordan-Hare Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Sept. 6.

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn's depth on the defensive line could allow it to field some fascinating rotations this fall.

According to rising sophomore defensive end Carl Lawson, tackles Gabe Wright and Montravius Adams have seen snaps on the outside during the first week of practices this spring.

"Montravius Adams is behind me," Lawson said when asked who has been his backup at left end this past week.

In his short time at end, Adams has already impressed his fellow Class of 2013 signee.

“Mont is a freaky athlete," Lawson said. "So he’s another one of the guys that can play end or tackle.”

At right end, Wright has seen time along with Gimel President while the presumed starter, LaDarius Owens, is sidelined with an injury. Wright has slimmed down during the offseason, dropping a dozen pounds, taking his weight from 296 pounds to 284.

"He's just changing his body," coach Gus Malzahn said of the Carver graduate. "He's been with (strength and conditioning) Coach (Ryan) Russell I guess for almost a year and a half now. He's very light on his feet, and I believe he's gotten stronger."

With so many defensive line combinations at Rodney Garner's disposal, Lawson said there's never a dull day at practice.

"It’s always fun. I have fun every day working with these guys," he said. "These are my brothers."
