Matthews, Mallchok, Arnold set school records for CSU track


ATLANTA -- The Columbus State track team had three competitors set school records on the first day of the Emory Invitational Friday.

Xavier Matthews recorded a 22 feet 3 inch long jump, Cody Mallchok finished the men's 3000-meter steeplechase event in 9:44.23 and Ashley Arnold finished the women's 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:20.19.

Shanila Chapman took third in the long jump. She had a mark of 17 feet 11.5 inches.

Columbus State's men were in ninth place out of 22 teams after the first day, and the women's team was in 12th.

CSU competed again Saturday at the invitational but results were not available at press time.
