After the offense had its share of highlights during last week's scrimmage, Auburn's defense bounced back on Saturday. The defense picked off two passes and allowed only one touchdown.

LAUREN BARNARD — Auburn University

AUBURN, Ala. — With the opening week of spring practice in the books, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn couldn't find any fault with his team's effort thus far.

"I was pleased with our attitude, not just really today but the two previous practices, too," he said. "I really feel like our guys want to practice. I feel like they want to get better and they've got the right attitude to get better. Overall, I thought it was a solid first week."

Even better, Malzahn said it's easy to see how far the team has come since last season, which was his first at the helm of the program.

"I like where we're at as a whole group," he said. "Their approach to practice. The way they respond to coaches. The effort and the focus. We still need to improve. We're never going to be satisfied. That's probably been the thing I've been most pleased with: our guys are understanding how to practice as a whole."
