CVCC sweeps Faulkner in doubleheader


MONTGOMERY, Ala -- The Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates swept Faulkner in a doubleheader Monday. The Pirates won the first game 4-0 and the nightcap 11-1.

In Game 1 CVCC had a 1-0 lead after an RBI by Kenny Ford until Grayson Ivey hit a two-out two-run double to help put the game out of reach.

Trevor Guthrie picked up the win in Game 1. He pitched four innings and gave up no runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

In Game 2 CVCC jumped out to an early lead and never slowed down. John Holland went 3-for-4 with an RBI and was a home run shy of a cycle. Cam Sperry went 1-for-4 with three RBIs including a two-run double and James Cunningham went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in.

Tyler Welch picked up the win. He threw for four innings and gave up one run on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

CVCC (25-7, 7-2) will travel to Marion Military for a three-game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
