A 28-year-old woman claims police failed to assist her after her 2010 Dodge Charger was stolen in front of an officer during a DUI check.

The woman told the Ledger-Enquirer she met the suspect, who she only knew as "Bernard," while at the Foxy Lady Lounge, and wanted to offer him a ride due to his level of intoxication.

At about 3 a.m., she was pulled over by Columbus Police Officer Greg Anderson near the intersection of Cusseta Road and 10th Avenue for failing to dim her headlights for oncoming traffic.

"I dropped my friend off at her house, and was about to drop him off when the officer stopped me," she said.

When Anderson smelled an alcoholic beverage, he asked the driver to step out of the vehicle so he could test the victim's ability to drive, according to a police report. He later determined the victim was not driving under the influence.

Not long after, "Bernard" hopped into the driver's seat and sped off.

"The officer asked if I wanted to report the car stolen, and I said I did," the victim said.

But the officer didn't pursue the vehicle, the victim said. Instead, Anderson dropped the victim off at her mother's house.

"I don't think he believed my story," the victim said. "He told my mom I knew who had my car."

The victim said she found her vehicle, with her purse and cell phone still inside, a street away from where it was taken Tuesday afternoon.

"I was a bit shocked that it happened," she said. "I'm just ready to get back to Atlanta."
