Casey Hughston's slam lifts Alabama over Troy


PENSACOLA, Fla. — Casey Hughston hit a grand slam as Alabama rolled to a 10-5 win over Troy on Tuesday night at Whibbs Maritime Park.

Hughston's slam came in the third inning as the Tide (16-8) took a 7-1 lead.

Georgie Salem had a two-run triple in a three-run second inning as the Tide took a 3-1 lead.

Nick Eicholtz (2-0) started and went seven innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on three hits. He struck out nine. Troy (14-12) scored three in the eighth and once in the ninth after the Tide had built a 10-1 lead.

This game was a rematch from the Tallahassee Regional last season. Troy beat Alabama twice to eliminate the Tide from the NCAA tournament.

Alabama will begin a SEC series against Ole Miss at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
