Cougars ride big inning to win over Flagler


ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Columbus State Cougars scored four runs in the sixth inning en route to a 8-5 win over Flagler Monday.

Jackson Oliver hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third, but Flagler scored another run to go ahead in the bottom of the inning.

This score remained until the top of the sixth when Blake Edwards hit an RBI single, two runs scored on a dropped fly ball hit by Mike McClellan and a run scored on a foul out by Matt Nettles.

CSU scored two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Oliver and an RBI double by Jimmy Obermark.

Flagler scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, but any further rally was quelled.

Bryan Headley (6-1) picked up the win for the Cougars. He pitched five innings and gave up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

CSU (26-10, 14-4) will begin a three-game series at Georgia College Friday at 6 p.m.
