Lady Cougars sweep Lander in doubleheader


The Columbus State Lady Cougars defeated Lander 1-0 and 8-1 Monday at home.

Lindsey DeFee hit a solo home run to notch the lone run of Game 1. Taylor Turner (8-8) picked up the win for CSU. She threw for all seven innings and gave up no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

In Game 2 Casey Googe had two separate two-run home runs, and Morgan Staffins had a solo home run.

Abby Green (6-1) pitched all seven innings and gave up one run on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Columbus State (23-16) was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Alabama at Huntsville Tuesday but those games have been canceled. Instead CSU will host Albany State for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
