Sheriff's Office: DUI suspect apprehended by deputy after causing crash

Deputy Sheriff Kevin Brown stopped a suspected DUI driver Tuesday morning after witnessing the suspect cause another vehicle to flip over near Blackmon Road and J.R. Allen Parkway, according to Sheriff's Office officials.

Maj. Randy Robertson said Brown was transporting several juveniles to a youth detention center when he noticed the suspect driving erratically in a pick-up truck. When the driver spotted Brown, he swerved into the median and hit an oncoming car, causing it to roll over.

Brown was able to stop the vehicle shortly afterward. The driver appeared to be under the influence of prescription drugs, Robertson said.

"We're just glad Deputy Sheriff Brown was alert and was able to stop the suspect before he could hurt other drivers," he said.

The occupants of the flipped car were transported by medical personnel; their conditions are unknown as of Tuesday afternoon. The arrested suspect's name was not immediately available.
