Alabama auto shop goes up in flames on Highway 80 West

Transform Minds Auto Customizing on Highway 80 West went up in flames Thursday afternoon, according to the owner, James Lyles.

Lyles said his shop at 3635 Hwy 80 went up in smoke and fire after he was doing some work with a plasma cutter.

The cutter apparently had a long cord, which knocked over a pan of varnish, Lyles said. It didn’t take long for the shop to burst into flames soon after.

Fire stations from Ladonia and Phenix City responded to the scene.

Meanwhile, traffic heading east and west was detoured for several hours as officials didn’t let drivers pass through the area unless they were residents.

Traffic was redirected to Auburn Road.
