Trucker killed in Opelika, Ala., crash on Interstate 85

A trucker from Baltimore was killed early Tuesday after the vehicle he was driving crashed on Interstate 85 in Opelika, Ala., authorities said .

Gerald Eugene Kess Sr., 62, died in the 1:20 a.m. CDT crash about three miles north of Shorter, the Alabama Department of Public Safety said.

Troopers said the southbound 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Kess left the roadway, struck a guardrail and bridge rail. No information was available on whether the driver was wearing a seat belt. The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
