UPDATE: Candidate forums coming up

Columbus voters wanting to see, hear and question political candidates will have gobs of chances at public forums during the next few weeks.

Election day for local nonpartisan races and the Georgia primary is May 20, but early voting starts April 28. Here is the schedule of forums made known to the Ledger-Enquirer:

• Monday: Candidates for mayor, city council and school board, 6 p.m., Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1633 Fifth Ave. Conducted by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.

• Wednesday: Columbus mayoral candidates debate, 6:30 p.m., Columbus Public Library auditorium, 3000 Macon Road. Conducted by the Muscogee County Republican Party.

• Thursday: Columbus branch of the NAACP forum featuring Muscogee County School Board candidates begins at 6 p.m. in the Columbus Public Library auditorium, 3000 Macon Road. The doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for residents to start submitting questions. For more information, call Carolyn Tigner at 706-442-8103 or Vickie Stafford 706-332-2732.

• April 21: Columbus mayoral candidates debate, 7 p.m., University Hall, Columbus State University main campus. Conducted by the Ledger-Enquirer, WRBL, CSU and PMB Broadcasting.

• April 23: Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate debate, 7 p.m., Riverside Theatre Complex, Columbus State University downtown campus. Conducted by the Ledger-Enquirer, WRBL, CSU and PMB Broadcasting.

• April 24: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., 4925 Forrest Road, hosts candidates for mayor, Columbus Council and state representatives, 5-7 p.m.

• April 24: MidTown Inc. hosts school board candidates for a political forum in the Muscogee County Public Education Center's board meeting room, 2960 Macon Road, 6-7:30 p.m.

• May 10: Republican candidates for U.S. Senate debate, 6:30 p.m. opening statements, 7 p.m. debate, Legacy Hall, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Conducted by the Ledger-Enquirer, WRBL, CSU and PMB Broadcasting.

• May 15: Columbus branch of the NAACP forum featuring Columbus mayoral and city council candidates begins at 6 p.m. in the Columbus Public Library auditorium, 3000 Macon Road.
