Central Alabama rallies to the defeat CVCC 7-6


ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. -- The CVCC Pirates outhit Central Alabama 14 to six on Friday, but just couldn't put the Trojans away.

Leading 6-4 going into the bottom of the eighth, CVCC gave up two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

The Pirates failed to score in the top ninth. The Trojans then loaded the bases on a single, a hit batter and bunt single. The Pirates' Dalton Rentz, who had been dominant throughout in the game, then hit the next Trojan batter to bring home the winning run.

Rentz (7-2) allowed only six hits and struck out 10 in the loss.

Derek Deates (1-0) picked up the win in relief.

The Pirates were led by Trevor Kieboom, who was 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. Jeff Ronpirin was also 3-for-5 and scored two runs. J.D. Perry was 2-for-4 and drove in a run.

No. 2 ranked CVCC (31-8, 11-3 ACCC) plays Central Alabama in a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m.
