Mike McGinnity pitches Columbus State past Georgia Southwestern


AMERICUS, Ga. -- Mike McGinnity pitched a complete game to lead Columbus State to a 7-2 win over Georgia Southwestern on Friday night.

The victory kept the Cougars (29-11, 17-5 Peach Belt Conference) on top of the conference standings, just percentage points ahead of Lander (18-6), which hosted Georgia College on Friday.

McGinnity (5-0) gave up 12 hits but didn't walk a batter.

Brendan Collins and Blake Edwards both went 3-for-5 for the Cougars. Collins drove in three runs and scored twice. Edwards had a pair of doubles and scored a run.

Jimmy Obermark and Mike McClellen had two hits apiece. Both of Obermark's were doubles, and he drove in two runs.

Matt Nettle had a triple and scored twice. Jackson Oliver and Carson Bowers drove in a run apiece.

The two teams play Game 2 of the three-game series at 4 p.m. Saturday.
