A Phenix City man with a strong odor of marijuana was arrested shortly after he entered a Smiths Station, Ala., business near Lee Road 240 and Lee Road 197, authorities at the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

Darin Courtney Mitchell, 28, was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after his vehicle was searched. Mitchell, who was out on bond for a similar charge in Georgia, is held on $11,500 bond in the Lee County Detention Facility.

Mitchell entered the business about 3:37 p.m. CDT Friday when a sheriff investigator noticed a strong smell of marijuana. During a search of his vehicle, deputies found prescription medication not prescribed by a physician, marijuana packaged for sale, scales, baggies and other items.

Mitchell may face additional charges as the investigation continues.
