Alabama evens series with Auburn with 4-1 win

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Justin Kamplain pitched 8 2-3 innings to lead Alabama to a 4-1 victory over Auburn on Saturday night at Sewell-Thomas Field.

Kamplain (3-2) shut out the Tigers until there were two outs in the ninth inning. Damon Haecker broke up the shutout with an RBI single.

Michael O'Neal (Pacelli, CVCC) took the loss for Auburn (20-16, 6-8 SEC). O'Neal (2-4) pitched 3-plus innings before he was pulled after allowing the leadoff batter in the fourth to reach. He gave up one run on five hits.

His reliever, Trey Cochran-Gill gave up three runs on seven hits in 3 1-3.

Chance Vincent led the Tide (23-11, 9-5) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Ben Moore, Hunter Webb (Russell County) and Kyle Overstreet had two hits apiece.

The two teams play the rubber game of the three-game series at 2 p.m. Sunday.
